|Healing Benefits of Epsom Salts|
Epsom salt is named for a bitter saline spring at Epsom in Surrey, England. It is not actually salt but a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. It has been long used as a natural remedy for a number of ailments.
Studies have shown that magnesium and sulfate are both readily absorbed through the skin, making Epsom salt baths an easy and ideal way to enjoy the amazing health benefits. Magnesium has an important role in the healthy functioning of the body including regulating the activity of over 325 enzymes, reducing inflammation, helping muscle and nerve function and preventing artery hardening. Sulfates are important for the absorption of nutrients, to flush toxins and ease migraine headaches.
When Epsom salt is absorbed through the skin, it draws toxins from the body, sedates the nervous system, reduces swelling, relaxes muscles, is a natural emollient, exfoliator, and much more. Epsom salts also help to dispel negative energy and leave you feeling refreshed and re-energized.
Eliminates toxins from the body:The sulfates in Epsom salt help flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain and helping the body to eliminate harmful substances. Your skin is a highly porous membrane and adding the right minerals to your bathwater triggers a process called reverse osmosis, which actually pulls salt out of your body, and harmful toxins along with it.
Relaxing and sedative bath: Add 2 cups Epsom salt to your bathwater. You can use a few drops of lavender or orange essential oil for increased relaxation. This is a wonderful way to de-stress, nourish your skin, and improve sleep, and sooth away aches and pains. Helps to clean up your energy field too. Relax and soak for about 10 minutes.
Foot soak: Add 1/2 cup of Epsom salt to a tub of hot water. Soak feet for 10-15 minutes. This helps, to soothe aches, remove odors, soften rough skin, de-tox, relieve stress, and reduce cold and flu symptoms. Follow with a gentle foot massage using almond oil and peppermint essential oil for extra restorative benefits.
Soak sprains and bruises: Epsom salt will reduce the swelling of sprains and bruises. Add 2 cups Epsom salt to a hot bath, and soak.
Splinter remover: Soak in Epsom salt, it will draw out the splinter.
Face cleaner: To clean your face at night, mix a half-teaspoon of Epsom salt with your regular cleansing cream. Just massage into skin and rinse with cold water.
Skin exfoliator: You can add almond oil and essential oils of orange, lemon and lavender to Epsom salts. Use ¼ cup Epsom salts, ¼ cup almond oil and 10 drops each of the essential oils. Mix together and gently massage over your wet skin starting with your feet and continuing up towards the face. Rinse off in the shower.
Finally, the great thing about Epsom salts is that they are easy to find at your local supermarket or pharmacy and are very inexpensive. So jump in and enjoy that weekly salt bath and relish the benefits.
